The goal of this project was to consider the impact of the pandemic on the role of Essential Caregivers in long-term care, and how it can also be applied to other emergency situations that may arise.
An essential caregiver is defined as anyone, family or friend, visiting a loved-one in long-term care to provide direct care and support (emotional and/or physical). * For further clarification, the New Brunswick provincial government refers to this classification as ‘Designated Support Persons’.
We made 5 recommendations to better support and promote the role of family caregivers in long-term care.
